The simple but lucrative coffee bean is a coveted crop the world over. Yet coffee farmers in eastern Africa don't always benefit from this huge potential. Many earn less than a dollar a day. They lack the tools, skills and bargaining power to earn a reliable income from the coffee they produce.

We are addressing this injustice by working closely with coffee-growing communities across eastern Africa, helping them pave the way towards a fairer future.

Farm Africa supports farmers in increasing the quality and quantity of the coffee they produce. We work with women in this traditionally male-dominated industry, so they benefit fairly from coffee production. Our goal is that coffee farmers can lift themselves out of poverty and protect the forests around them. This is the brew-volution...

For the farmers we work with, coffee is not just a crop, it's a lifeline.

Mengiste, Oromia, Ethiopia

"Coffee is our life. It’s our health, it’s our food, it’s our clothing, and it’s education for our children. Coffee is everything."

Patience, Kanungu, Uganda

“Farm Africa taught us good methods of farming. Now, my family is able to cater for the school fees using our improved income.”

We're already growing fairer futures

We believe coffee farmers should thrive, not just survive. Farm Africa works with coffee farmers in Ethiopia and the Democratic Republic of the Congo where some of the world’s best coffee is grown.

We work to empower women in this traditionally male-dominated industry where they lack access to the land, coffee trees and finance needed to earn a living from coffee farming. We train by doing, with a two-way discussion that encourages farmers to share their knowledge so whole communities learn new techniques.
