Leading restaurants are helping to end hunger - for good

17 March 2015

This spring diners are helping to end hunger by supporting Farm Africa’s annual Dine for Good campaign. Dine for Good is an opportunity for a number of the UK’s best food destinations to raise funds to help farmers in eastern Africa grow themselves and their families out of hunger.

Participating restaurants will encourage diners to support Farm Africa by adding a voluntary donation of £1 to their bill. Farm Africa is a different kind of charity - simply put they help African farmers to feed themselves and their families. With just a £1 donation Farm Africa could provide a farmer with 1kg of specialist seeds – making this campaign a simple and effective way for restaurants and their diners to make a huge difference to supporting African farmers grow their way out of hunger.

Speaking ahead of the campaign, Farm Africa’s Chief Executive Nigel Harris commented:

We’re delighted to have such a fantastic range of restaurants throughout the UK supporting Dine for Good. Together, the food and hospitality industry has raised an impressive £1 million for Farm Africa and Dine for Good is a wonderful opportunity for us to work with more restaurants and their guests as we strive to raise £5 million over the coming years. The simple act of adding a £1 donation onto guests’ bills will have a huge impact on our work in eastern Africa, helping us to reach more farmers and their families.

Michelin-starred chef Josh Eggleton explained why his restaurant, The Pony & Trap, had decided to take part in Dine for Good:

The Pony & Trap is focussed on serving food which is grown by the very best producers in the region and promoting sustainability in the food chain. We are supporting Farm Africa who are working with farmers growing similar produce in eastern Africa to give them tools and the means to become self sufficient. Through Dine for Good, we’re hoping to make a long-term difference to these families and communities.
