Farmers Weekly reports "enormous benefits" of Farm Africa work
Farmers Weekly Magazine has just published the first in a series of fascinating articles on Farm Africa projects in Kenya and Uganda.
Matthew Naylor of Farmers Weekly travelled to see Farm Africa projects with Charlie Russell, a Scottish beef and dairy farmer who was recently awarded 2012’s UK Farmer of the Year. The two were accompanied by Farm Africa’s Communications Officer, Matt Whitticase, and Cathy Whiteman, Head of Community and Events Fundraising.
Matthew and Charlie saw at first hand the incredible impact Farm Africa’s work is having in improving the livelihoods of smallholder farmers and their communities. They also met young farmers groups who, thanks to Farm Africa, are discovering they can build lives and sustainable income for themselves through learning good agricultural and enterprise practices.
Matthew and Charlie travelled to Luwero in central Uganda to see Farm Africa’s Upland Rice and Legumes Project. They then travelled on to Western Kenya to see our Youth Empowerment Through Sustainable Agriculture (YESA) Project.
The two have returned inspired by Farm Africa’s work. In his first piece since returning to the UK, Matthew wrote that “the Farm Africa projects were bringing enormous benefits and the farmers that we met were highly likeable and their hospitatlity and gratitude were overwhelming.”
In addition to articles on the trip there is a picture gallery and video blog from Charlie. You can view Matthew’s article here, and the picture gallery and video blog here.
