Farm Africa on BBC Horizons Programme

A recent episode of the BBC’s Horizons programme showcased some of the extraordinary work being carried out by Farm Africa to transform the lives of smallholder farmers in Kenya.

The programme, which aired on Saturday 2 June, was one in a series of Horizons episodes focusing on global food sustainability. In making the series, the Horizons team has travelled the world in search of ideas and businesses that could succeed in tackling the planet’s biggest challenges.

Horizon’s presenter, Saima Mohsin, travelled to Western Kenya with a production team to look at work Farm Africa is undertaking in the region. Both Farm Africa projects featured in the programme are building food security in the region. Our Western Kenya Cassava Project is achieving this by introducing farmers to new and improved cassava varieties capable of withstanding disease. And our Aqua Shops Project is providing vital business training, services and support to fish farmers who are increasing the supply of fish protein to local populations.

The programme has already aired but can still be viewed on the Horizons website. On the Horizons website the programme has been split into 6 parts. The footage taken on our Aqua Shops project is available via Part 1 (Kenyan Aquaculture); and the footage from our Western Kenya Cassava Project is available via Part 4 (Wonder Crop).

You can also watch Farm Africa’s film, Making Fish Farming Pay”, a more feature length film which features our Aqua Shops project in greater depth:
