Tanzania Highland challenge

The team at Lengai The team at Lengai

In September 2013, a group of food industry leaders took on a unique off-road challenge and a true test of endurance. The funds they raised brought the 2013 Food for Good total to £500,000!

The 145km trek through the Tanzanian Highlands pushed the team to their limits, climbing extinct volcanoes and trekking alongside wildlife. They climbed the steep Eysai rift, crossed hilly country and finished in the most volcanic area of Africa, where the air is dry and life is tough. The team trekked for up to ten hours a day and the whole ten-day trip was spent under canvas.

Before the trek the team visited Farm Africa’s Nou forestry project to witness the impact the UK food industry’s support is having on the ground. The project is working to develop a new model for sustainable forestry, by training farmers to develop sustainable enterprises, map the forest and find other sources of income so that they are able to better provide for their families whilst conserving their habitat.
