Sidai Africa is a social enterprise that has set up a network of centres to provide high-quality livestock services and crop inputs in rural Kenya.

Each centre provides quality crop inputs and animal husbandry and health services to farmers and pastoralists.

Founded in 2011, Sidai's products and services are now available at 350 stockists and over 100 company-run stores.

Quality services

Sidai is unique in that many of its centres are located where they are most needed: remote rural areas where they will be serving pastoralist communities.

Most Kenyan livestock keepers are pastoralists. But, until now, these communities and their herds have been neglected by commercial suppliers of livestock services, who have concentrated on the traditionally profitable commercial dairy and poultry sectors.

A commercial business, Sidai draws on more than two decades of Farm Africa’s practical experience of establishing sustainable livestock services.

Private sector investment

In April 2019, Farm Africa secured $2.25 million investment in Sidai Africa Ltd from leading agri-tech company Devenish.

The deal saw Devenish become Sidai’s largest shareholder. All of the money that Farm Africa received from the sale has been ploughed back into Sidai, accelerating the enterprise’s growth and development.

The investment will enable Sidai to expand the network into new areas of Kenya and develop new own-brand products.

Farm Africa retains a minority shareholding in Sidai Africa Ltd and continues to be involved in the oversight of Sidai as the organisation looks to scale and expand.
