Thames Path Challenge raises over £8,000
As one team set off on Saturday morning for the summit of Kilimanjaro, another team of equally intrepid Farm Africa fundraisers set out on a crisp, sunny morning for a hard day’s walking along the banks of the River Thames.
Most of the team earned their towpath blisters with a 50km yomp from London’s Putney district to Runnymede. And the exceptionally hardy Matthew Griffiths strided out all the way from Putney to Henley, a staggering 100km!
One of the walkers, Rosie Rendall, said after she breezed into Runnymede to collect her finishing medal:
“It was a beautiful sunny day and the Thames was looking fantastic as we walked the 50k from Putney to Runneymede with hundreds of other walkers. What really spurred me on was the amazing generosity of all my wonderful sponsors and I didn’t want to let them down. It took 9.5 hours and I can honestly say I enjoyed every minute!! However, as it began to get dusky and the gnats started to bother us I was extremely pleased to see Staines Bridge which I knew was a few miles from the finish!”
Between them the team has so far raised a hugely £8,354, with donations still coming in.
A huge thankyou is due to all our indefatiguable walkers for giving up their weekend to raise so much money that will help us help Africa’s farmers to grow more food and move more people out of hunger.
