Farm Africa, along with nine partners, is implementing the four-year Nature-based Solutions for Sustainable and Inclusive Development (NSSID) programme in Ethiopia to reduce poverty, build communities’ resilience to climate change and protect the environment.
87,000
households will be reached through the programme with special attention given to building the resilience of women and young people.
We are targeting over 87,000 households, including smallholder farmers, community-based organisations, entrepreneurs, small and medium enterprises and community leaders.
We will help farmers boost their sustainable food and nutrition security by supporting them to grow and sell nutritious crops using climate-smart agricultural practices. At the same time, we will also help communities to earn money from environmentally friendly businesses through the production and sale of non-timber forest products.
Further environmental aims include protecting, conserving and restoring biodiversity and ecosystem services and supporting communities to adapt to climate change and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The programme also aims to reduce resource-based conflicts through gender-sensitive inter-community peace and conflict resolution.
The programme’s reach will also benefit neighbouring South Sudan, northern Kenya, and Somalia through improved watershed management and wildlife, biodiversity and forest conservation efforts.
The programme will be delivered by a consortium of nine partner organisations: Farm Africa (lead), SOS Sahel Ethiopia, Movement for Ecological Learning and Community Action, Sustainable Environment and Development Action, ORDA Ethiopia, Population Health & Environment – Ethiopia Consortium, Union of Ethiopian Women and Children Associations, Environment and Coffee Forest Forum and International Water Management Institute.
