Tim Jury eats for £1 a day for Farm Africa's End Hunger Grow Farming appeal

Long-time Farm Africa supporter and farmer, Tim Jury from Pett in East Sussex, is supporting Farm Africa’s End Hunger Grow Farming appeal by taking on a sponsored challenge to eat for only £1 a day for a week.

Speaking about his challenge, which kicked off on 26 November 2022, Tim says, “As an act of solidarity I will be eating only what I can buy for £1 a day for a week. This of course may be difficult but I will know it is only for a week, many families in Africa face this every day but with the help of Farm Africa their future can be so much brighter.”

With his own farming experience, Tim is motivated by a deep feeling of solidarity with farmers across Africa and has kindly delivered a wide range of fundraising activities, from barn dances to ultramarathons, to show his support for Farm Africa over the years.

This year, sponsorship towards Tim’s challenge will be matched thanks to a generous group of Farm Africa supporters as part of the End Hunger Grow Farming appeal, which is raising funds to help farmers across eastern Africa regenerate their land, build climate-resilient businesses and grow more food.

“As a regenerative farmer myself I understand the importance of healthy soil and how with the right management it can not only provide a sustainable future for farmers but help reduce the impact of the climate crisis,” Tim explains.

Currently vulnerable farming communities in eastern Africa are facing the effects of the climate crisis, which is causing widespread threats to lives and livelihoods. Many smallholder farmers are struggling to feed their families. We are seeing a rise in hunger, with thousands of people in Ethiopia and Kenya facing acute food insecurity as harvests in the traditional 'food basket' regions fail.
