Richard triumphs on 800km cycle challenge

Richard Corbett, a farmer from Herefordshire has returned home in triumph after completing a punishing 800 kilometres, 7 day bike ride through some of the most mountainous stages in the Pyrennes mountains which straddle the Spanish – French border.

The route of the Haute Route Pyrenees event, which took place in September 2014, took Richard from Barcelona and the Mediterranean all the way to the crashing surf of Biarritz on the French Atlantic coast.  In between he had to climb approximately 20,000 metres on his bike – that’s the height of sea level to the summit of Mount Everest - twice!

But asked what persuaded him to take on such an uphill challenge, the 48 year old father of three shrugged and explained: “I like to set an ambitious target so I can push myself”.

Just as impressive as the cycling has been Richard’s fundraising. The cycling supremo has raised the enormous sum of over £7,000 for Farm Africa.

Richard has only been cycling for three years, but it seems the riding bug has well and truly caught him. Before conquering the Pyrenees he had already notched up the Fred Whitton Challenge – a 112 mile ride through the Lake District, a London to Amsterdam ride and event took on the Prudential Ride London-Surrey 100 challenge as a 'training ride' earlier this year.

To reward Richard for all his hard work and dedication, it’s not too late to make a donation via his online fundraising page
