They made it!

05 October 2012

Early news back from the summit of Kilimanjaro reports that the NFU's Africa 100 team has conquered the world’s tallest free-standing mountain.

After a gruelling six-day trek, the first communication back since the group left Gilman’s point around 300m from the summit, is that the team reached the peak at around 9am today.

Communications from the mountain are difficult and we are still awaiting a detailed description of the final ascent, but early news that the climbers have reached the summit is fantastic to hear.

Farm Africa's Gila Hale said: "We are all very tired after a very long day. The final ascent was so tough - there was nothing we could have done to prepare for that! We are all now together at Horombo Hut and looking forward to a good night's sleep and to celebrating our achievement over a few Kilimanjaro beers tomorrow night!"
