I hope to earn more by planting the orange-fleshed sweet potatoes and I will use this money to improve my family’s life.

Nehemia, Tanzania

Nehemia lives in Tanzania’s Morogoro region with his wife Maria, and their three daughters – Gift, Lightness and Beatrice, pictured here. He relies on growing and selling sesame and tomatoes to earn a living, but he can’t afford good-quality seeds or pesticides, so his harvests are often small and sell for low prices. His family often go hungry.

Will you give a gift today that could help farmers like Nehemia to start growing orange-fleshed sweet potatoes and grow a future free from hunger?

We believe the orange-fleshed sweet potato really is a superfood! It’s rich in vitamin A that boosts the immune system and is not susceptible to common pests that kill Nehemia’s other crops. Nehemia wants to grow this superfood so that he will not only have more crops to sell, but he will also be able to provide his family with nutritious food every day. And as sweet potatoes are in growing demand in Tanzania, Nehemia will be able to sell his harvest for a good price so he can earn enough money to feed, clothe and educate his children.

You could help set up demonstration plots so that farmers like Nehemia can start to learn how to grow orange-fleshed sweet potatoes. We need to buy the vines, fertiliser and tools to start delivering practical training in May. With your support, this summer farmers like Nehemia could start learning how to grow this superfood and transform their families’ futures for good.

Your gift today could help farmers like Nehemia reap plentiful harvests – year after year, so they can provide everything that their families need to thrive, not just survive.
