Eighty per cent of rural African people depend on small family plots for their livelihood. Most farmers have less than one hectare of land and struggle to grow enough food to survive.
Farm Africa brings in simple but effective technologies, such as:
- small-scale irrigation schemes
- seeds for drought-tolerant crops
- disease-resistant native crops.
Farming the future
We prove that good farming, backed by strong marketing of produce, is a lasting way out of poverty for millions of rural Africans.
In programmes around eastern Africa, we help smallholders:
- adapt to the changing climate
- practice sustainable agriculture
- manage natural resources effectively.
With training from our staff in eastern Africa, farmers are doubling and tripling their harvests as they adopt better seeds, methods and soil improvers.
This new cassava from Farm Africa is a godsend. I shall bid poverty farewell if I continue to produce it.

Our crops work
I’ve had training from Farm Africa to show me how to plant and grow improved sesame, and how to see sesame as a business. Before I was harvesting two bags per acre but now get five to six bags.
