Sustainable agriculture for improved food security in Tigray, Ethiopia. Part one: Integrated watershed management.
Back in the early 1990s Tigray was barren, without the lush green grasses and vegetarian visible today. Over the last 20 years, Farm Africa has deployed its expertise in watershed management to help the local community rehabilitate the ecosystem that underpins local communities’ livelihoods.

A study using a series of timed satellite images, looking at the impact of Participatory Forest Management on the levels of cover in Chilimo forest, which lies 70Km west of Addis Ababa. Farm Africa has been working here since 1996. (July 2012)

Ethiopia country strategy 2012-2015
Farm Africa in Ethiopia plans to grow its programme income to over £4m by 2016, and hopes to directly improve the lives of 900,000 people. We will do this by: continuing to play a strong role in sustainable forest management; significantly scaling up our work to support smallholder farmers; proactively supporting climate-smart agriculture and working more strategically in pastoral areas.
