Join the giving revolution this Christmas - Farm Africa is proud to be part of innovative product line-up from Advent of Change

11 October 2020

Farm Africa is pleased to announce that we are part of a unique product line-up for Christmas 2020, alongside 47 other charities. The feel-good festive range has been revealed in partnership with John Lewis by the non-profit social enterprise, Advent of Change, which pioneered the UK’s first advent calendar with a charity behind each door.

This year, the flagship calendars are returning alongside two brand-new products aiming to help even more charities. Farm Africa is proud to join the Advent of Change movement, with money from the sale of their Premium Advent Calendar, Christmas Crackers and Advent Candles going to support our projects in eastern Africa.

Premium Charity Advent Calendar

Support Farm Africa by purchasing this year’s best-selling Premium Charity Advent Calendar. Beautifully updated for 2020 with an eye-catching design and new charity donations, Advent of Change’s flagship product is ready to brighten up the Christmas countdown once again.

Charity Christmas Crackers

We are proud to have been included in a brand-new product for this year and Advent of Change’s most requested product for 2020 – their set of six eco-friendly charity Christmas crackers allows people to donate while enjoying Christmas dinner. Each cracker contains one of 24 charity donations on a beautifully designed card bauble, a joke written by a renowned celebrity and, of course, a silver paper hat.

Charity Advent Candle

As one of their brand-new products this year, we’re delighted to have been included in Advent of Change’s luxury scented advent candle, made using 100% natural wax with no parabens and styled to perfection with a beautifully frosted finish. When lit, the candle burns down to reveal hidden numbers while a complementary booklet gives the user information about each of the 24 included charities

Advent of Change

Advent of Change began with founder Kristina’s idea to reverse the consumerist nature of Christmas and bring back the giving spirit, but it quickly captured the imagination of many others.

The innovative social enterprise caught the attention of John Lewis and Partners, who will again be stocking the calendars in stores and online this year. Dan Cooper, Partner and Christmas, Gift Food & Experiences Buyer, said:

“In my role, I get to see some really interesting and exciting new products, but Advent of Change really stood out to me as an incredibly innovative way of giving back during the festive season.”

Advent of Change has also secured a number of exciting endorsements from household names such as Richard Branson, Joanna Lumley, Greg James, Lawrence Dallaglio and has even received an award from the Prime Minister for it’s outstanding contribution to charity and the community.

By the end of 2019, Advent of Change had raised £300,000 for its chosen charities, and after a particularly challenging year for the sector, its founder, 28-year- old Kristina Salceanu from Warwickshire, hopes to raise the same again this year for 48 amazing charities. She said:

“It’s been a challenging year for the charity sector which is facing losses of £10bn due to increased demand for services and lost fundraising income due to the Covid- 19 pandemic. One of the main reasons I launched Advent of Change back in 2018 was to enable people to donate to multiple charities with one purchase, helping a number of different causes, and this is needed now more than ever.

We aim to create the world’s kindest products and are delighted to announce more products that will support more charities for 2020. We are extremely proud to representing Farm Africa with our products.”

Charlotte Senior, Partnerships Lead at Farm Africa, commented:

“Farm Africa is delighted to be a part of Advent of Change again this year. The calendar brings awareness of a wide range of important causes to the forefront of our minds during the festive season. We are pleased to be able to share stories about the impact of Farm Africa’s programmes through these seasonal products, highlighting our work with smallholder farmers to embed sustainable agriculture across eastern Africa, while protecting the environment for generations to come.”
