Bale Mountains Challengers - they made it - and raise over £125,000!

On 6 November, a brave group of senior members of the UK food industry set off on a never-before-done 117km trek across Ethiopia’s Bale Mountains in aid of Farm Africa.

We are delighted that the team have now arrived safely back home and we send them our congratulations!

The team faced all sorts of challenges on their way: from fog to freezing temperatures, early starts to Ethiopian wolves, not to mention the four peaks each over 4,000m that they had to summit. Trekking at altitude the whole way puts increased strain on your body, so moving slowly is vital, as is eating and drinking plenty.

The group were rewarded by stunning views of the Bale Eco-Region, one of the most diverse and significant ecosystems on earth, and even spotted some rare wildlife.

At the end of their trek the team visited two of Farm Africa's projects in the area and met local people who are benefitting from working with Farm Africa. One of these projects is a ground-breaking programme focusing on protecting the Bale eco-system and developing sustainable livelihoods for forest communities, where everyone tried some wild coffee for the first time.

The Bale Mountains Challengers have so far raised an incredible £125,000 for Farm Africa, with more fundraising still coming in. An incredible achievement on top of their physical challenge!

You can read the full details of the trek, in the team's own words, on the #TrekBale blog.
