Live Below the Line

Could you live on £1 a day?

What can you buy for £1 nowadays? Two pints of milk...a small portion of fries...a bar of chocolate?

In Ethiopia many women like Genet live below the poverty line, with less than £1 a day to cover all their food, housing and daily costs. This means they often go to bed hungry.

You can help mothers like Genet by Living Below the Line for Farm Africa. The challenge is to spend just £1 a day on food and drink and raise sponsorship. You can take part on any five consecutive days between now and the end of June.

With your help, Farm Africa can provide women like Genet with goats that will provide milk to feed their family and kids to sell at market, meaning they can build a brighter future for their children. It’s only five days and at the end of the challenge, you can enjoy three nutritious meals a day. But even more importantly, you’ll know that Genet and many more like her can too.

How to Live Below the Line

  • For five days you eat only what you can buy for £5. It’s tough, otherwise it wouldn’t be a challenge – but we know you can do it!
  • Download recipes and plan your weekly shop.
  • Raise money for Farm Africa by asking your friends and family to sponsor you to complete this amazing challenge.
  • The money you raise could help provide Genet, and many more farmers like her, with goats so they can feed their families.
  • At the end of the challenge, you can enjoy three nutritious meals a day. And better yet...so can Genet and many more like her.
