Asha's story

Asha, 35, is chair of the Chachole women's group in Mieso district,  eastern Ethiopia.

Before her involvement with Farm Africa, Asha struggled to make a living off the rugged land in Mieso, a lot of which is too arid to cultivate. She was constantly worried that she would not have enough food to be able to feed her family each day. Often, her children would only have two meals a day, and she could not afford to buy them new clothes or send them to school.

The gift of two goats

Asha was provided with two goats from Farm Africa, as well as training in how to rear them and seeds to grow their feed. As one of 40 women in Mieso who received goats, Asha and her fellow farmers set up a savings group, so that they could manage their savings collectively and fund business enterprises.

Asha’s two goats have now given birth to four more. She can now feed her children nutritious goats milk, and the goats’ manure provides good fertilizer for her crops, increasing how much she can grow.

‘Due to the impact of the project, I can develop confidence to my future… I don’t have words to thank Farm Africa enough for supporting the very poorest people.’

Give a gift of £60 today to help provide another woman like Asha with a goat and the training she needs to care for it.
