It is always incredibly touching when we receive such a gift from a long-standing supporter, and it remains a wonderful testament to their memory and passion for our work.

Long-standing Farm Africa supporter and British farmer, Tim Jury, explains what inspired his decision to leave a gift in his Will.

I've supported Farm Africa for almost 30 years now. As a farmer myself, I understand that their projects really do work! Leaving a gift to Farm Africa in my Will is a great way for me to continue my support.

Frequently asked questions

Why make a Will?

A Will gives you and your loved ones the certainty that your estate will be distributed according to your wishes. It can also avoid entitlement disputes. Including a gift to a qualifying charity can also lead to tax advantages. But as everyone is different you should seek professional advice on the advantages available to you.

Is it expensive to make a Will?

It can cost around £150 for a single Will, or £200 for two mirror Wills, however Farm Africa have partnered with FreeWills.co.uk to provide all our supporters with the opportunity to make their own fully comprehensive Will for free. You can make your personalised Will online in three simple steps, from the comfort of your own home and with live support from their Will specialists.

How do I include Farm Africa in my Will?

If you’d like to include Farm Africa in your Will, we suggest you visit a qualified solicitor. To ensure your gift is used in the way you would wish, we have written a suggested legal wording for you to share with your solicitor and use when writing your Will. You can find suggested wording in our Gifts in Wills guide.

I already have a Will; how do I change it?

You can use a Codicil form to make small changes to an exisitng Will. It is best to instruct a solicitor to prepare and advise upon its contents and then (most importantly) to properly execute the document. You can download our Codicil form (PDF) here.

How will you use my Legacy gift?

We promise to use your gift wisely and effectively.  Any gift left to us in a Will, which is not subject to any restrictions regarding its use, will be allocated to our work across eastern Africa and will make a lasting difference, helping us plant the seeds of knowledge so that farming communities can thrive.

What about inheritance tax?

The good news is that gifts to charity in your will do not incur inheritance tax. However, there is also an additional advantage – if you leave at least 10% of your taxable estate to charity, the inheritance tax rate on everything else is reduced from 40% to 36%, which will mean other beneficiaries could also receive more.

What do I do once I’ve left a gift in my Will to Farm Africa?

You don’t need to do anything else, but it is very helpful if you get in touch to let us know. You can call us on 020 7430 0440 or email remember@farmafrica.org. Knowing that you plan to leave us a gift in your Will helps us to prepare for the future and keep you informed about our work, should you so wish. We’d also like the chance to say thank you!

What happens if I change my mind?

You are free to change your mind at any time! Letting us know you plan to leave a gift in your Will to Farm Africa doesn't commit you to doing so. It would be very helpful if you let us know, as well as your solicitor, should you change your mind.

What if I don’t have a large gift to leave?

Big or small, any gift that you leave to Farm Africa will help families in rural Africa to thrive for generations to come.

Can you offer any advice for executors?

If you are an executor for the estate of someone who has left a gift to Farm Africa in their Will, please get in touch with our team on 02074 300 440 or remember@farmafrica.org and someone will be able to advise you on what to do next, such as how to make payment.
