That Ideas Girl

That Ideas Girl

Anna, AKA ‘That Ideas Girl’ is a blogger from West Yorkshire. A self-confessed lover of food, Anna knows the challenge will be hard but is looking forward to making a difference to the lives of farmers like Genet.

“For 5 days I am going to struggle with hunger and crave chocolate like mad! I will be seriously tempted by workmates tucking into delicious paninis and mouthwatering muffins. But by taking part in this £1 a day challenge, I may just be able to make a small difference to a great cause.”

Tim Jury

Tim Jury

Tim is a farmer and despite it being a very busy time on his farm he has decided to take on the challenge. But living on £1 a day for five days just wasn’t enough...

“I got to thinking that all I was contemplating was enduring just 5 days when for so many this goes on day after day. Well I'm not that strong to live below the line for several weeks but I could add a little to the challenge. I will pledge to live on a pound a day for 5 days then on the 6th day (May 2nd) I will take part in the Thames/Oxon 40 mile ultra marathon!”

Rosie Rendall

Rosie Rendall

Rosie is a volunteer at Farm Africa and regularly fundraises for Farm Africa. “I’ve walked, run and cycled before but never tried to live on £1 a day.” She’s a little nervous about the challenge but has already been planning her meals, especially as the thing she will miss most is “meat”.

However she has been thinking about what goodies she can forage to help boost her £5 budget. Elderflower cordial sounds like a particularly good idea to us!

Chris Weir

Chris Weir

Chris works in the fundraising team at Farm Africa and as soon as she heard about Live Below the Line was inspired to sign up for Farm Africa. Just a few weeks ago Chris visited a Farm Africa project in Tigray and was able to tell her friends and family personally about why she is supporting Farm Africa.

“Seeing what the women we work with have achieved, I couldn’t help but feel overwhelming emotion and immense pride to work for such a fantastic organisation.”

Edwina Mullins

Edwina Mullins

Edwina has already completed her challenge and her top tip is to “keep a large bottle of water with you and drink it whenever you need to combat a growling tummy”.

Edwina is also a volunteer speaker and shared on her blog about our work and why she chose to fundraise for us.

“I passionately believe in teaching people how to live sustainably rather than giving handouts and this is exactly what Farm Africa does. Because of extreme poverty, so many people don't have enough to eat every day, and this situation can be avoided. Live Below the Line demonstrates the problem in a concrete way, while raising money to address the problem.”

Farm Africa directors

Farm Africa directors

Our directors enjoyed a Live Below the Line lunch, cooked by director of resources Natasha. The meal was made extra challenging because Natasha only shops locally and where possible, organically.

"I found it quite challenging as I was worried about having enough for everyone but I was also able to supplement the meal with some leaves from the garden. I was pleased that everyone did have enough to eat and actually seemed to enjoy it."

You don’t need to take on the whole 5 days to take part. You could organise a Come Dine Below the Line meal like our directors and fundraise for Farm Africa.
