State of emergency in Ethiopia

14 October 2016

A six-month state of emergency has been declared in Ethiopia, the first in 25 years, following widespread protests across the country, particularly in the Oromia and Amhara regions. Over the last year the protests have resulted in casualties, and there has been severe disruption to communications across the country, including road travel.

Farm Africa has worked in Ethiopia since 1988. From dairy goats and good-quality seeds to business training and forest conservation, we provide simple and practical support to help lift farmers and herders out of poverty.

The safety of our staff is Farm Africa’s highest priority. Our vital work in Ethiopia continues, but we continue to monitor the situation in order to minimise the risk to our staff.
