Minael's story

Minael lives in Tumati village in the Mbulu district in Tanzania. Life in this forest community is difficult and Minael struggled to cover the costs of sending her children to school. Local traditional customs mean that women are expected to stay at home and look after their children, making it hard for them to earn a living too. Minael was pleased to receive five modern beehives from Farm Africa. They can be kept at ground level close to the family home, so she can care for her children and earn money from honey too.

New skills

Minael received all the training and equipment she needed to help make her beekeeping business a success. She now harvests around 150 litres of honey a year providing a much-needed additional income for her family. She takes her honey to be cleaned using the machine Farm Africa gave the beekeepers in her village, before setting a small amount aside for her children and selling the rest at market. Minael can now confidently pay the school costs so her children can have a good education.

Expand her beekeeping business

Minael shared her hopes for the future, “My life will improve because I am earning good money. I would like to increase the number of hives I have, so that I can have more income.”

Your gift of £16 could help provide a women with a modern beehive and the opportunity to earn money selling honey.
