The National Farmers' Union Gives Hunger the Boot – at work!

Employees of the National Farmers' Union (NFU) donned their wellies to take part in a whole host of fun activities in support of our nationwide Give Hunger the Boot campaign.

Based in Stoneleigh Park in Warwickshire, the NFU’s headquarters were awash with welly-themed fundraising last week. The NFU has long been a staunch supporter of Farm Africa, and we are thrilled that the NFU membership magazine Countryside became an official media partner this year.

In print, the magazine has been urging its readers to take part in our Give Hunger the Boot fundraising campaign, so it was only fitting that the magazine’s writers and editors followed suit in their own office!

The week's activities included tasty African meals (and a very apt sausage wellington!) offered by the NFU canteen for a small donation and an NFU headquarters welly-wanging competition! Staff also brought in home-baked cakes for a fundraising bake sale and held a raffle with prizes including a tent, outdoor wear and other goodies kindly donated by companies including Mountain Warehouse and Countrywide.

On Friday, staff were encouraged to quite literally ‘Give Hunger the Boot at Work’, by wearing their wellies in the office! Bold welly-wearers strutted their welly booted-stuff at work for a small donation whilst their welly-shy colleagues made a donation in return for a ‘welly waiver’.

A great time was had by all, and over £400 was raised for our work on the ground in eastern Africa, helping farmers grow themselves and their families out of hunger, for good.

It’s incredibly easy to get behind Give Hunger the Boot at work. We organised a week full of simple activities, from welly-wanging to cake baking and a raffle, raising £375. It’s a lovely way to get everyone at work to pitch in, have fun, raise money and eat lots of lemon drizzle cake!
