Phoebe 'lived below the line'

Last year, Phoebe Ryan a food blogger from Leeds took on the Live Below the Line challenge for Farm Africa.

For five days Phoebe lived solely on the food and drink she could buy for £1 a day, and blogged about her experiences.

She took on the challenge with her husband Pete and together they spent five days living on simple meals such as porridge, pea soup and mexican bean stew. It was certainly a challenge and Phoebe regularly noticed that she did not feel full. But the thought of the 1.2 billion people worldwide who are living on £1 a day spurred her on.

Phoebe raised sponsorship for Farm Africa and raised £145 in just one week, simply by sending the link to her fundraising page to her contacts, friends, and family. The money she raised will help farmers like Genet to grow their incomes and look forward to a future free from hunger

I’m so lucky I have the choice of how to feed myself – even working extra hard, usually, to cut the calories some days to bring myself back in line! But millions of people in the world cannot imagine this luxury. I love food, but I have never had such respect for its power before. It powers us, and fuels us to be the people we want to be. Without the power to fuel our bodies, life is a massive struggle. It really does make you recalibrate your attitude to food. I mean, I have always tried not to waste anything, but I’ll try to consider everything I buy from now on. Let’s give whatever we can to those to whom the lottery that is our birthplace was not so lucky.
