Employees of field marketing agency Cosine are no strangers to fundraising for Farm Africa. This year they have already held a Safari themed fundraising day in the office and sent Chief Operating Officer Jacqui Sheldon to Kenya to take part in our Dig for Good project. But now Campaign Executive Sharon Moore is taking her turn as she swims the length of the Channel across four intensive sessions with the hope of raising £1,700 for Farm Africa.

She decided to take on this exhausting challenge after Cosine made Farm Africa their charity of the year. Selected as one of four employees to go on a visit to one of the charity’s projects in Kenya, Sharon was determined to do as much as she could to help tackle poverty and hunger in Africa. And her desire to make a difference goes back to a trip she made to the continent some years ago:

“I went on honeymoon to South Africa in 2006 and while driving round the country with my husband we saw the real poverty of people there. I remember thinking ‘is this how people really live here?’ It was a wake-up call and we were really shocked and determined to do something to help.”

To achieve her goal, the Buckingham woman will have to plough her way up and down her local pool a staggering 1416 times.  She may have already completed two of the four sessions last week but will no doubt be pushed to the max when she spends hours in the Buckingham Swan Pool and Leisure Centre this weekend to finish covering the distance. However, the cheers and shouts of all those coming down to support her should be enough to spur her on.

As well as training hard, Sharon has also been fundraising furiously by washing her colleagues’ cars, organising a ‘Jacket Spud Friday’ at work and holding a number of car boot sales.
