Singing for their Supper!

Natalie, Ruth and Mimi at Willesden Green station Natalie, Ruth and Mimi at Willesden Green station

Ruth Watson, Natalie Vassiliou and Mimi Borst all study at the University of East London. After seeing a  Tweet on the Farm Africa Twitter page, asking for volunteers at our station collections, Ruth said she would love to get involved and asked her friends to join her.

They met at Willesden Green station on a very chilly evening in December, dressed in their Christmas hats and ready to sing.

At first commuters seemed a little surprised to see carol singers at their tube station, but soon warmed up to the idea and the donations began to flow.

The enthusiasm shown by Ruth, Natalie and Mimi was second to none and they clearly brightened up the evenings of the residents of Willesden Green who smiled, danced and sang along with them.

After four hours dedicatedly singing Christmas favourites such as "O come all ye faithful", "Joy to the World" and "We wish you a Merry Christmas" our volunteers were delighted to learn that they had raised a fantastic £238.45!

What a fantastic total! I really did not think it would be that much and it is lovely to hear. We had such fun, it was really 'Christmassy' and such a lovely thing to do.

Their collection is part of Farm Africa's wider "Sing for their Supper" appeal, asking supporters across the country to dust off their carol sheets and fundraise at Christmas to help farmers in eastern Africa.
