The Dine for Good campaign allows diners in participating restaurants to add a £1 donation (or the equivalent in another currency) on to their bill to raise money for Farm Africa.
Together, the food and hospitality industry has so far raised over £1.5 million for Farm Africa. The simple act of adding a donation onto guests’ bills could have a huge impact on our work, and help us to reach thousands more farmers and their families. By signing up today, you could be part of a network of restaurants joining together to fight poverty and hunger in eastern Africa.
Last year, participating restaurants included Bar Boulud (London), Dinner by Heston Blumenthal (London), Fleur De Lis (Bristol), Grain Store (London), Les Deux Salons (London), Lucknam Park Hotel and Spa (Wiltshire), The New Harp Inn (Hereford), Simpsons Restaurant (Birmingham), The Cross Kenilworth (Warwickshire), The New Angel (London), The Pony and Trap (Bristol) and The Stables Restaurant (St Albans).
Taking part in Dine for Good is a fantastic way to show your commitment to sustainable food production. We work with sector media titles such as The Pelican, Big Hospitality and The Staff Canteen to promote participating restaurants.
It couldn’t be easier for restaurants to get involved. Here a few FAQs which should answer any questions:
We’ll provide you with small table cards which will be placed on each table or into guests’ bill folders throughout the duration of the campaign. The card will contain information about Farm Africa’s work and will explain to guests that a discretionary donation will be added to their bill. The donation is voluntary and upon payment customers can always opt out.
Restaurants that we have worked with have found that this has no effect on the level of tipping and that customers are happy to help farmers grow a brighter future.
The process couldn’t be simpler. We recommend you allocate a button on your electronic till to ‘Farm Africa’. As staff process guests’ bills, the donation will appear on the printed copy. You’ll be able to keep a record of how much has been taken under ‘Farm Africa’ and can then transfer the total amount when the initiative ends.
By providing you with all of the materials, there will be no associated cost to the restaurant and all proceeds will directly benefit Farm Africa. As the £1 donation is added to the bill after the service charge and VAT, it will not affect the restaurant’s VAT returns.
