Day 2: Our very own production line

Judith is one of nine senior women from the UK food industry taking part in Farm Africa's Big Beehive Build.

Mosquito bites - still at 3, Gin and Tonics - lost count , embarrassing and noisy toilet moments - 0, bee stings -0 beehives built -0

Now you may be worried that at a third of the way through our challenge that we haven't built any hives! But don't worry, because we have developed a fairly advanced mass production line for all the components which will then be assembled today (well that's the plan anyway). I'd like to think that the Erri community were quietly impressed with our skills with a saw and a hammer and also our hard work, diligence and focus, as well as our methodical approach to the challenge.

I must admit to feeling a little overwhelmed when we arrived at the most stunningly beautiful location and saw very large pile of wood, nails, metal, wire and all sorts of other bits and pieces, and not being quite sure how it was going to all fit together! Well, today we will find out whether it actually does all fit together...the anticipation is nerve racking!

Bee numberplateWe also had a little unplanned excitement yesterday when Jonathan disturbed a hive that then decided to swarm and during the process he got very stung. He's a bit swollen (20 stings in total including one in his ear), but survived the onslaught. Protective clothing isn't top of the priority list here so that's something to resolve as the beehive programme roles out.

As we set off this morning the sun is shining and we are feeling confident about the day ahead. I hope to report later that at the end of the assembly line it all came together beautifully! Finally check out the number plate on one of our vehicles....how appropriate!
