Goat Power exhibition

Farm Africa welcomes you to Goat Power - a collection of images by international award winning documentary photographer Chris de Bode, from photographic agency Panos Pictures.

A free outdoor exhibition of the photos took place from 3 October to 6 November 2020 on More London Riverside, London SE1.

Chris de Bode’s photos transport viewers to the harsh drylands of South Omo in Ethiopia and Karamoja in Uganda, two of the poorest areas in eastern Africa, to show how Farm Africa is unlocking the power of goats to transform the lives of pastoralist women and their families.

The unpredictable climates have made it difficult for communities to grow crops or keep cattle healthy. Children often go hungry and despite working hard, women do not have their own property and in most cases have to ask their husbands for even the smallest amount of money.

Through a project funded by UK aid from the UK government and Jersey Overseas Aid, Farm Africa is supporting women to set up goat-rearing businesses so that they can earn their own money and improve their families’ diets.

The photos give an intimate look into the lives of these women and their communities to explore the different ways that the goats have empowered them.

You can support Farm Africa's projects by giving a gift of £10.  This donation could help Farm Africa provide a woman in Ethiopia or Uganda with training that will help keep her goats healthy.
